Hamid Idris Awate and Col. David Cracknell
Author Haileselassie Woldu in his new book, Hamid Idris Awate: 1915-1962, mentions that Colonel David D.P. Cracknell, the former Police Commissioner of Eritrea during the British Administration (1941-1952), was known as "De'w De'w"/"ደውደው" for the people of western lowlands of Eritrea.
